I take it as honor
and privilege to steward the working, objective and activities of the
Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana which
is a service organisation in the State of Punjab, established since 1968
and recognized by the Ministry of commerce, Government of India, New
Delhi. This distinguished organisation was founded by the veterans of
industry Sh. Prem Nath Gupta, Director of M/s. Venus Industrial
Corporation and Sh. O.P. Munjal Chairman, Hero Group of Industries. It
is my endeavour to come up to the high expectations time and again
reposed on me by the members of the chamber with their continuous
support and cooperation, in steering the affairs of the chamber
effectively.
The Trade and Industry of the State of Punjab have passed through
unfavourable scenario since the inception of this Chamber but the
undeterred, pro-trade and industrial constructive approach, the Chamber
had been able to overcome the adversities confronting the growth of
Trade and Industry in the State, with the dedicated support of the
members including its affiliated trade and industrial associations and
the cooperative gesture shown by the State and Central Government.
I cannot remain without showing my special concern about the engineering
industry namely bicycle and bicycle parts, machine tools, sewing
machine, hand tools, auto parts which has been passing through very
crucial and tough times for the last 3 years mainly due to
non-availability of the basic raw materials prominently the steel
products at the competitive rates, non availability of the regular power
supply, unprecedented labor problems and above all incompatible and
unfavourable industrial policies of the State and Central Government
especially for MSME Sector.
The significance MSME Sector has already been accepted as one of the
vital cogs in India’s wheel of progress being the backbone of the entire
industrial set up in the country. This status of the MSME Sector has to
be safeguarded and maintained by apprising the State and Central
Government which is the need of the hour. This can be done by the State
and Central Government by providing adequate latest infrastructure,
arranging raw materials at the reasonable competitive prices and by
simplifying relevant legislation concerning power tariff, VAT, labor law
and granting service tax exemption to small job working industry. Our
Chamber has already taken up these issues with concerned Ministries of
State and Central Government.
In the dynamic eco-political atmosphere we, the industrialists need to
be united to reconsolidate our constructive approach to achieve
consistent growth and stability of our industry. In this era of
globalization, we can definitely achieve worldwide competence in terms
of productivity and quality consistency.
I would like to appeal to our members that they should endeavour to come
out with flying colors out of present apathy of the MSME industry. They
should remain dedicated for promoting efforts of the Chamber to achieve
the landmark in their fruitful journey so as to provide all round boost
to the Trade and Industry of State. “The future depends on what we do in
the present.” It is precisely with this inspiration and spirit that I
seek to win in these turbulent times.
